On the evening of April 9, 2024, the American Academy in Berlin celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with 250 guests at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Video testimonials in the Academy’s anniversary film shown that night were offered by former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, former German ambassador to the US and Academy trustee Wolfgang Ischinger, film director and trustee Volker Schlöndorff, journalist and trustee Kati Marton, former Academy chairman Karl von der Heyden, and alumni including playwright Claudia Rankine, writers Ian Buruma, Lauren Groff, and Diane McWhorter, filmmaker Yemani Demissie, diplomat Julianne Smith, and Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic and host of Washington Week on PBS.
